What is New in Version 1.1.2?

Version 1.1.2 fixes a buffer overflow problem that would show up intermittently if the number of categories in a given database is over 52. The repurcussions of it is the inability to sort the database by that category.

Another problem addressed is some versions of Internet Explorer giving "http 400 bad request" error under Windows Vista.

In addition, 1.1.2 provides the following capabilities:

What is New in Version 1.1.1?

Version 1.1.1 is primarily a bug fix release over version 1.1. It was submitted to Apple on September 7th 2008, and at the time of writing this article, it was still in review. If the latest version of iDB on AppStore is not 1.1.1 yet, please wait for a couple days until it shows up. And if you are an updating customer, as always, take the precautions listed here prior to updating your iDB.

For 'Lite' customers: Due to some issues on AppStore, Lite version 1.1 was pulled out and replaced by version 1.1.1, and delivered to Apple at the same time with 'iDB Pro'. Hopefully iDB Pro 1.1.1 and iDB Lite 1.1.1 will show up on AppStore at the same time (if they haven't already).

Versions 1.1.1 fixes an important security bug in "iDB Pro".

In addition, it introduces 4 new application types:

It also puts back the ferris wheel on the Console in its original state. Turns out, presenting the latest/greatest applications first was not a popular route among existing customers.

What is New in Version 1.1?

Version 1.1 is the first major feature release. Earlier ones had focused on bug fixes and improvements.

If you are an existing customer and upgrading from an earlier version, you may want to go through these changes:

  • Bug fix for international customers of iDB Pro: A problem in restore used to strip UTF8 characters at times, rendering restored DBs with pure ASCII characters.

  • The 'ferris wheel' on the Console screen now rotates to reveal more applications.

  • Separation of admin and login passwords: iDB now offers two separate passwords, admin password as usual and mere login password. You can use either one of them to log on to iDB. Login password can be as weak as you want it to be; it can even nothing (an empty string), in which case iDB will skip the login screen altogether.

  • Password recovery upon answering a security question in now possible.

  • Admin only screens: Parts of iDB requires admin privileges. You can also change the status of any database and make them available to admin only.

  • Version 1.1 introduces a "startscreen" notion. If set, iDB will start from the startscreen rather than the default "Console". See Configuration to change your startscreen.

  • Exit upon Sleep: Another security feature introduced by iDB 1.1. See Configuration for details.

  • Notes application now has 'categories' field. It also introduces 'text-pickers' you may want to read about. Text pickers will be used more and more on other applications.

  • Diary dates are now editable / modifiable.

  • Search on "all fields" is now possible. (Earlier the choices were either "titles and keywords", or "titles, keywords, notes").

  • Search on current-database only

  •
  • Books database

  • Contacts database

  • Patients database
