Ultimate "Pocket Data Manager"iDB Datamaster is an "Application Suite" organizing
and managing your day-to-day data in iPhone/iTouch devices while keeping them securely
right in your pocket. By utilizing a template-driven database engine, it offers a number
of applications, allowing various types of records and data-entry, and letting you list,
display, move, sort, and search them. The suite includes the following applications and
data-types: |

etc. (See Applications in the tutorial). Just rotate
the ferris wheel on the Console to see hidden application icons reveal
themselves. Upcoming versions will enhance and support even more diverse applications
and datatypes.
All of the above are integrated under the umbrella of an application suite, so you can globally backup, restore, and search over different databases and different datatypes.
No Need for a Desktop ClientCustom desktop clients can tie you to a specific Operating System, not to mention they are not always free. iDB Datamaster comes with a built-in web server. Yes, that's right! Whenever desired, iPhone/iTouch device can stop being a lightweight client and become a powerful web-server, so you may connect to iDB from any machine with a web-browser (whether it is Mac, Windows, or Linux / Unix); and backup and restore your databases. And with a little knowledge of CSV format, you can even fully manage your data from any computer.
True iPhone Application SuiteiDB Datamaster is a true iPhone Application Suite. It was specifically designed and written for iPhone O/S; not a poor adoptation or portation from another platform. As such, it is very efficient and fully integrated with iPhone / iTouch. Whenever feasible, iDB can call other iPhone applications. Tapping on a data field may make a phone call, open a web-page, open email for writing, etc.
Fully DynamicUnder iDB Datamaster, you can have as many databases as you want. (does not apply to iDB Datamaster Lite). Those may be the same, or different types of databases. For instance you can have multiple ToDo lists; one for a specific project, another one for house chores, another one for work... You may look at them seperately, or look at a 'merged' view, sort them, move records between databases, etc.
Fully SecureLost your iPhone and it has all your credit cards, accounts, logins, etc? No worries. Not only your data is password protected, it can also be encrypted on iPhone disk. Password protection prevents application access to data. However, someone with technical skills can reach iPhone data directly, without going thru the application. And when he does, your data is not legible on the device... After all, iDB is your "Pocket Data Manager", and you need your data in your pocket to be safe...
Full Search FunctionalityHow many applications can give you full search functionality over heterogenous data? iDB can search any given term over all its databases, and can render a list of related records for you. You may search any term over record titles, keywords, or do a full search on all the fields of all databases to find the record you need. Found records are not a dumb list; they are still fully functional retaining their coherency to their databases, so you may still edit, call other applications, pause directly out of found lists...
Numerous Ways of Analyzing DataDepending on the datatype, you may look at your data in different ways; by sorting them alphabetically, by status, by priority, by due-date, etc. Best of all, iDB will remember how you wanted to see a database, and will render it to you the same way next time.
Inter-Database Record ExchangeYou may move records from one database to another for organizing, archiving, etc in one single tap. Suppose you have an accounts/passwords database. Over time it became too big, making it difficult to find what you seek. You want to remove the records you no longer use; however, hesitant to lose any data just in case if you may need them again. Simply create an archive database and move them over.
Take a Break! You can take a break from iDB, and then get back to exactly where you left! iPhone O/S does not allow non-Apple applications to run in the background. That means, one you leave an application, it truly terminates. Then when you come back, you have to start from very beginning. Under iDB, you can take a break (pause) for any reason; making a phone call, checking a web-site in Safari, etc. Then with a single tap on iDB icon, you can get back to the exact record where you had left.
Legible BackupsRather than introducing its own proprietary format, iDB tries to be as accomodating as possible. iDB backups are in standard CSV (comma separated value) format, allowing easy data exchange. If you need to, you can open iDB backups on any computer, in any CSV compatible application, and start using the data for whatever reason you need to. Just as such, if you can bring data from other machines/applications into CSV format, you may directly load/restore them into iDB!
ResetDepending on the datatype, you may reset all data in a database to an initial state for reuse... For instance, supppose you have pre-flight checks as one of your databases, and you mark-off every checklist item after executing the necessary step. Next time you would just reset the database, and re-use the list again. |
